- Outline Style Blogging: I was reading a blog entry by David Galbraith yesterday concerning the value of blogging in an outline style. I agree with much of what David had to say, and blogging in the traditional fashion does sometimes force you to write longer essay-like content. I have been seriously considering this for my blog. Sometimes you just want to post something quick and dirty, but the current blogging tools don’t quite allow you that. I could use the OPML Editor to do this, but I must admit I want something that is not workstation dependent. Thus, I think the option for different posting templates might be in order.
- Client Backups: There has been talk around this issue, but I think there will be a need for us to start backing up specific user workstations. I am currently waiting for a backup of our managing partner’s laptop hard drive to complete before shutting the failing hard drive down. 2.5″ laptop hard drives–what most iPods use–should not be nearly this noisy. Of course, the consecutive BSOD STOP Errors were also an indication of impending doom. Naturally, he and I had tabled our discussion of backups twice previously. I bet you we have that discussion now.
- Wiki: I have been pondering whether or not putting up a wiki at the office is a good idea to use as an intranet. I could see great value in putting one up, as it would encourage knowledge sharing, too. The one issue I have is that we already sort of have one in the Sharepoint Services that are installed on our SBS 2003 server. Secondly, the intranet should be accessible from just about anywhere, and our SBS server is on an internal network. It would take a lot of work with our ISA 2004 server to get this to work right. Aside from that, I am not that comfortable with Sharepoint–I just have not spent any time figuring it out. If I decide to go the wiki route, my preferred way would be to put it on a small Linux box and have that server publicly accessible–making sure to secure it.
- Travel: I have been toying around with the idea of a trip to see my friends–a college chum and his wife–in Los Angeles. I missed my window to buy a cheap airfare this weekend, but I am giving serious thought to going out and seeing them. Of course, I have a trip to Boston in about 3 weeks to watch some Beanpot Tournament. Following that, I travel to Atlanta for NCAA Basketball tournament regional. In May, I will return to Boston for a few days for my BU Reunion Weekend–it has already been 10 years. Still, I want to take a trip to LA.

So, do you use wiki across the board, or just for your technical staff? I think it would not be a bad thing to introduce to everyone–technical and non-technical alike.

across the board, we use it for projects to set up project websites to share docs and info fairly quickly, it runs on a little linux server but we don’t really expose it outside the network, ….we have websphere portal for our intranet… most everyone prefers wiki except those that fawn over ibm

Looks like I have some work to do. Which wiki software package did you guys go with: Twiki, MediaWiki, something else?
